Retail Development Course

The Tennessee Retail Development Course is a one and a half day course which focuses on how to develop, implement and evaluate an effective retail recruitment strategy. Course topics include retail trends, prospecting and recruiting strategies, site selection and the deal making process, among others.

The class is one of a series of economic development courses, provided by the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services (UTCIS), designed to share best practices and trends with Tennessee’s economic development practitioners, private industry leaders, community leaders, and elected officials.​

Instructors:
Lacy Beasley, Retail Strategies

Lacy serves as President & COO of Retail Strategies. She has been involved in retail real estate since 2005.  Her experience with The Shopping Center Group and the Dickson County Chamber of Commerce prior to joining Retail Strategies provides her with the insight to understand the connections needed from the public and private side of the conversation.Lacy-Beasley.jpg

A graduate of Lipscomb University, she earned her double major in Marketing and Management. Beasley is the ICSC TN P3 Retail Private Sector Chair and has served on committees with CCIM, EDAA, and multiple ICSC planning committees. Her articles have been published in Shopping Centers Today, Site Selection Magazine and AL Retail Federation. She has spoken on retail trends and best practices in retail recruitment to the at more than 75 events including ICSC, American Association of Retirement Communities, American Public Power Association, Tennessee Valley Authority, ElectriCities of NC, Georgia Power, Southeastern Economic Development Council and state-wide economic development and municipal associations in AZ, LA, OK, TN, AL, MS, KY and GA.


Matt Petro, Retail Strategies

As Chief Development Officer of Retail Strategies, Matthew leads a team of professionals who identify communities seeking solutions to maximize their real estate assets to attract desired businesses, boost revenue streams, and increase the quality of life within their community.

Over the course of his career at Retail Strategies he has served and excelled in every position on the team, gaining experience in business attraction and development, market research and analysis, marketing, and relationship management. Matthew has years of experience developing a deep knowledge of the needs of communities through working hand-in-hand with local elected officials, economic development professionals, chambers of commerce, as well as municipal and county governments. 

Matthew completed his undergraduate work at University of Alabama achieving a degree in Marketing with a specialization Sales. In addition, he is a licensed Real Estate Professional and a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) currently working toward his Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation.
Course Fee:
$295 by August 28th, 2017
$345 after August 28th, 2017
The registration fee covers course materials, instruction, selected meals and refreshment breaks. It does not cover hotel and other travel expenses.
Registration is limited to 40 participants and is filled on a first come-first served basis.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

Payment needs to reach our office two weeks prior to the class.  No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellations one week or less prior to the first date of class.  No refunds for cancellations less than one week prior to the first day of class but credit may be applied towards another UT CIS course.​​

Dress Code:
The attire for the course is business casual.
Scholarships:

Scholarships cover $220 of the $295 course tuition cost and do not include hotel, travel or meals. Scholarship recipients will be required to pay $75 of the tuition cost, which will not be refundable should the participant withdraw from the course. Applications must be received by August 23 to be considered for a scholarship.
