Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course (TBEDC)

Join us for the 12th Annual Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course (TBEDC) to be held May 7-10, 2018 in Nashville. This four-day comprehensive course, accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), focuses on the fundamental concepts, tools and practices needed to be successful in today’s complex economic environment.

Who should attend?

The Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course (TBEDC) is designed for community leaders and stakeholders who participate in the process of community and economic development at local, regional, state and federal levels. Typical conference attendees include chamber of commerce and economic and community development organization professionals, elected and appointed officials, government agency staff, community planners, utility personnel, bankers, business leaders, real estate brokers and developers, and community volunteers.

Course Fee:

$695 by April 9, 2018
$745 after April 9, 2018
The registration fee covers course materials, instruction, selected meals and refreshment breaks. It does not cover hotel and other travel expenses.

This scholarship is in memory of Philip Trauernicht​, a long time public servant to economic development. This annual scholarship provides full tuition to attend the annual Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course and up to four nights’ lodging during the course. Learn more about Philip and the scholarship here.

This scholarship covers TBEDC tuition and does not include hotel, travel or meals. Applications must be received by March 30, 2018 to be considered for a scholarship. Scholarship recipients will be required to pay a non-refundable processing fee of $150 upon receiving the award. Scholarships cover $545 of the $695 course tuition cost. The required processing fee will not be refundable should the participant withdraw from the course.

Course instructors include highly qualified economic development professionals from across the state and the country.

Accreditation and Professional Development:
The Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course is accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and counts toward the CEcD certification for professional economic developers. Upon satisfactory completion of the TBEDC, participants will receive a course certificate and will qualify for admission to other IEDC courses for advanced training.
CEU credits are available through the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service.
Attendance Policy:
Course Attendance Policy: Participants are required to be present at all classes offered in order to receive credit for the course. No excuses for absence shall be accepted except those of illness, family emergency or business emergency. If illness, immediate family emergency or business emergency forces a student to be absent for more than 10% of the course, it must be repeated for credit to be granted. Travel inconvenience is not considered an emergency.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

Payment needs to reach our office two weeks prior to the class.  No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellations one week or less prior to the first date of class.  No refunds for cancellations less than one week prior to the first day of class but credit may be applied towards another UT CIS course.​

Dress Code:
The attire for the TBEDC is business casual.
