Managing Economic ​Development Organizations Course

The Tennessee Managing Economic Development Organizations course is a one and a half day course which focuses on building an effective economic development organization at local, state and regional levels. Topics include examining organizational models, measuring performance, management approaches, roles of key leaders, and technology’s role in the economic development organization. 
The class is one of a series of economic development courses, provided by the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services (UTCIS), designed to share best practices and trends with Tennessee’s economic development practitioners, private industry leaders, community leaders, and elected officials.

Dr. Dave Kolzow has over thirty-eight years of consulting experience in site selection, real estate development planning, and community economic development. His past clients include numerous communities, states, and some of the largest land developers in the nation. His wide-ranging experience has also made him popular as a speaker and trainer. He served on the faculty of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma from 1985 to 2000, and recently has been the lead instructor for several IEDC courses. 

Dr. Kolzow has served on the faculty of Basic Economic Development Courses in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, Arizona, New Mexico, Michigan, Kentucky, California, and North Carolina.
Course Fee:
$295 by July 10
$345 after July 10
The registration fee covers course materials, instruction, selected meals and refreshment breaks. It does not cover hotel and other travel expenses.
Registration is limited to 35 participants and is filled on a first come-first served basis. 
Course Times:
On-site check-in will take place from 9:00am - 10:00am
The course will begin at 10:00 and will conclude the following day at 3:00 pm.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

Payment needs to reach our office two weeks prior to the class.  No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellations one week or less prior to the first date of class.  No refunds for cancellations less than one week prior to the first day of class but credit may be applied towards another UT CIS course.​​

A block of rooms has been reserved for course participants at the Marriott Chattanooga Downtown at a special course rate of $100 nightly plus tax for a single room. Course participants should make their own room reservations by 6/24/17, to receive the discounted rate. Dress Code:
The attire for the course is business casual.

Scholarships cover $220 of the $345 course tuition cost, and do not include hotel, travel, or meals. Scholarship recipients will be required to pay $125 of the tuition cost, which will not be refundable should the participant withdraw from the course. Applications must be received by July 3 to be considered for a scholarship.
