Strategic Planning for Economic Development Course

The Tennessee Strategic Planning for Economic Development Course is a one and a half day course which covers the steps to successfully implement a strategic planning process for your organization, your geographic area, or project.  Course topics include consensus building; understanding and applying economic data; developing mission, vision, and goals; and measuring progress.

The class is one of a series of economic development courses, provided by the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services (UTCIS), designed to share best practices and trends with Tennessee’s economic development practitioners, private industry leaders, community leaders, and elected officials.​

Dr. Dave Kolzow has over thirty-eight years of consulting experience in site selection, real estate development planning, and community economic development. His past clients include numerous communities, states, and some of the largest land developers in the nation. 

His wide-ranging experience has also made him popular as a speaker and trainer. He served on the faculty of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma from 1985 to 2000, and recently has been the lead instructor for several IEDC courses. 

Dr. Kolzow has served on the faculty of Basic Economic Development Courses in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, Arizona, New Mexico, Michigan, Kentucky, California, and North Carolina.

Course Fee:
$295 by September 25, 2017
$345 after September 25, 2017
The registration fee covers course materials, instruction, selected meals and refreshment breaks. It does not cover hotel and other travel expenses.
Registration is limited to 35 participants and is filled on a first come-first served basis.

On-site check-in will take place from 9:00am - 10:00am
Tuesday 10am - 5pm

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

Payment needs to reach our office two weeks prior to the class.  No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellations one week or less prior to the first date of class.  No refunds for cancellations less than one week prior to the first day of class but credit may be applied towards another UT CIS course.​​

Dress Code:
The attire for the course is business casual.

Scholarships cover $220 of the $295 course tuition cost, and do not include hotel, travel, or meals. Scholarship recipients will be required to pay $75 of the tuition cost, which will not be refundable should the participant withdraw from the course. Applications must be received by September 18 to be considered for a scholarship.
