Engineering Management Certificate Program 

The University of Tennessee (UT) Center for Industrial Services and the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) are sponsoring a three day Engineering Management Certificate Training Program for technical professionals.  This program is designed to provide management and leadership skills that can be applied as soon as the program is completed to better lead and manage knowledge worker based organizations.

This program is for persons who lead or manage organizations of primarily technical personnel or personnel who work in technology organizations. It has been delivered for engineering companies, R&D organizations, manufacturing facilities, utilities, nuclear facilities, and high tech manufacturing organizations.  The program is based on the Engineering Management Body of Knowledge (EM-BOK) developed by ASEM and 5 other professional societies.  The core concepts relate to the management of knowledge workers and cover topics such as motivating knowledge workers, teams, time management, Myers Briggs personality types, organizing, overcoming the bureaucracy, strategic management, problem solving, systems thinking, and leadership.

 

The three day program consists of:

1.       Management Concepts and Practices for integrating organization efforts.

2.       Motivating Knowledge Workers, the people of integrated management efforts.

3.       Team Management Concepts, make teams and units productive and effective.

4.       Organization Structure, includes assessment and design.

5.       Strategic Management.

6.       Systems Thinking, in the integrated organization, and

7.       Leadership Theory and Practice.

Students completing the three-day Engineering Management Certificate Program will receive 24 Professional Development Hours (PDUs) and a certificate from ASEM and UT.
