Description
 
The University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services is recruiting for the position of Economic Development Specialist. UTCIS’ mission is to deliver services to business and government that improve the lives of Tennesseans. These services include state and regional initiatives that leverage university and partner resources to improve the economic capacity and competitiveness of Tennessee communities. This position provides leadership and coordination for an Asset Based Planning initiative, working with communities across the state to leverage community assets for economic development. The position also provides support to other UTCIS economic development programs, including the Tennessee Certified Economic Developer program and the Economic Development Administration University Center. 
 
Qualifications
 
Requirements:
 
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in an economic development environment; including experience with economic development planning and the application of economic development principles and practices at the community level. 
• Proven ability to communicate and work collaboratively within an organization and with partners and stakeholders including economic development organizations, investors and sponsors, and community leaders to accomplish joint goals. 
• Demonstrated computer, presentation and communication skills, including skills in facilitation of community or organization planning events. 
• Ability to think strategically and creatively in developing and promoting programs and services. 
• Understanding of current economic climate and proven ability to develop and employ innovative approaches to complex challenges and opportunities. 
• Ability to identify, cultivate and secure funding sources, including federal and state grants, private foundation grants, and private sponsorships 
• Attention to detail and ability to engage internal support services (i.e. registration, contracting, etc.) to achieve highly rated outcomes. 
• Knowledge of economic development resources and practices in Tennessee. 

This position will be based in Nashville or Knoxville and will require travel within Tennessee and occasionally outside the state. The position is a two-year, full-time limited duration appointment, which could be extended dependent upon funding availability.
