Manufacturing is an integral part of Tennessee’s economy. According to the National Association of Manufacturers, Tennessee's manufacturers account for 16.28 percent of the total output in the state, employing 11.5 percent of the workforce. Total output from manufacturing was $51.14 billion in 2015. In addition, there were 341,500 manufacturing employees in Tennessee in 2016, with an average annual compensation of $67,456 in 2015.
In 2015, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation authorizing the UT Center for Industrial Services (UT CIS), to develop a Made in Tennessee program to advance and celebrate Tennessee manufacturers and their products. The goal of the program is to support the Volunteer State’s manufacturing community by raising awareness of the products made in this great state and providing resources to help Tennessee’s manufacturers grow!
As part of the program, the UT Center for Industrial Services curates and hosts the Made in Tennessee online directory. Businesses and individuals looking for suppliers can use this directory to view Tennessee’s manufacturers and the products they produce.
