Military Appreciation Month: East TN AJC Veteran Services

In 1999, Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month to ensure the nation was given the chance to publicly show their appreciation for troops past and present.  It serves as a reminder of the profound contributions made by service members.

The East Tennessee American Job Centers (AJCs) seek to support and empower the military community every month through the services they offer to veterans.

The AJCs' JVSG (Jobs for Veterans State Grant) program is designed to assist veterans in their journey toward sustainable employment, recognizing the unique skills and experiences they bring to the workforce.  There are two sides of the JVSG program.

The first side is Employment Representatives (Local Veteran Employment Representatives or LVERs) who work diligently with area businesses to secure good jobs and career opportunities for veterans.  Any jobs posted on the Jobs4TN system automatically have a 24 hour hold so that Veterans can apply first.

The second side is Employment Specialists (Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialists or DVOPs) who work with Veterans to help them recognize strengths, reduce barriers, and set and reach goals toward meaningful employment.  This key feature of the AJC's JVSG program is its emphasis on individualized support. Recognizing that each veteran's experience is unique, the center offers personalized assistance to help veterans navigate the complexities of the job market. This includes resume assistance, interview preparation, and job search guidance tailored to the veteran's skills and career goals as well as helping translate the military resume to civilian resume to increase their marketability.

Furthermore, the AJC provides access to a wide range of employment opportunities and resources through its extensive network of employers and agencies. Through job fairs, networking events, resume classes, mock interviews, and partnerships with local businesses, the center connects veterans with meaningful employment opportunities that align with their skills and interests.

Through their dedicated JVSG Services, the ET AJCs is helping to ensure that our veterans receive the support they need to succeed in their post-military careers.

We sincerely thank those who have served and currently serve for their sacrifice and service to our country.
