Sometimes, a simple introduction is all it takes to spark a major win for a local business. This success story demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when UT CIS teams combine their strengths, share networks, and work together as One UT CIS.
The journey began during a One UT Community Day in Wayne County. Recognizing an opportunity to align resources and expertise, Tintin Czach from Economic Development connected the Wayne County Joint Economic & Community Development Board (JECDB) with Veronica Clark, the Tennessee APEX Accelerator counselor representing West Tennessee, through an introduction to Rena Purdy, Executive Director of the Wayne County JECDB.
"Relationships matter. One of my favorite parts of One UT Community Days is connecting communities with the people and resources across UT CIS that can help them succeed. Sometimes the biggest opportunities start with a simple conversation and an introduction. This success story is a wonderful example of the impact we can make when we work together for our communities," said Tintin Czach, TCED Program Director at the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services (UT CIS).
That introduction became the catalyst for a true community-wide effort. Purdy quickly engaged her network of local manufacturers, including TriStar Fabrication. Recognizing that preparing a business for procurement opportunities requires collaboration and support, partners worked together to assist owner Jesse Rosenecker through every stage of the process.
The support included:
Defense & Security Compliance: Registering in the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (PIEE), obtaining a NIST score, and applying for Joint Certification Program (JCP) certification.
With the necessary preparation complete and strong support from regional and statewide partners, TriStar Fabrication attended the Valley Meet-Up on March 18 and connected directly with representatives from Tennessee State Parks. As a result of Czach's initial connection, Purdy's local leadership, and the procurement readiness assistance provided by Veronica, TriStar Fabrication secured a contract valued at nearly $100,000 with State Parks.
