PTAC SBIR/STTR Programs Summit

By Jutta Bangs, PTAC Counselor

The Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) recently offered a conference on expanding research capacities through university partnerships. The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are the nation’s largest source of early stage, high-risk research and development funding for small businesses.

The UT Research Foundation discussed how UT startup companies have used the SBIR system to commercialize technology developed at the university. Jim Greenwood with Greenwood Consulting provided information on guidelines for teaming with universities and federal laboratories on SBIR/STTR projects. Mike Paulus, Director of Technology Transfer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), spoke about opportunities for small businesses to engage with Department of Energy National Laboratories.

Over 90 attendees had registered for this event. For more information about how PTAC can assist your business with innovation research and technology transfer, contact Russell Toone at Russell.toone@tennessee.edu.
